About "Lift While You Lead" Mentoring Network
"Lift While You Lead" aims to connect undergraduate students at UC Merced with students at Golden Valley High School and Yosemite High School. The UC Merced students will serve as mentors to the high schoolers, all of who are enrolled in Sociology of Gender and the Role of Women in Society and U.S. History at GVHS and YHS. The small group mentoring relationship will provide mentors and mentees with support, guidance and encouragement – all with an emphasis on women and leadership. Beyond small group mentoring, all participants are also strongly encouraged to participate in Women's Programs activities and other events related to the theme, “Lift While You Lead."

Over time, we hope the network will grow, so that professionals in Merced and surrounding areas will mentor the undergraduates, and the high schoolers will mentor students in middle school. Ultimately, the goal is to emphasize the importance and support of women in leadership while encouraging others to be lifted, grow and develop in positive ways.

Time Commitment
A minimum five (5) hours of participation are required each month. Collaborative opportunities for mentor/mentee interaction will be provided by Women's Programs and GVHS and YHS. Relationships with be formed and strengthened during in-person meetings, activities, and through an exclusive social media group.

The primary time for interaction between mentors and mentees will be during class visits up to twice a month. “Adopt-a-class” times (including travel to/from) are:

-Monday: 8:30-10:15 am (GVHS)
-Tuesday: 9:15 - 11:00 (YHS)
-Thursday: 9:45 - 11:15 (YHS)
-Friday: 8:30-10:15 am (GVHS)

Networking Model
In contrast to a traditional one-on-one mentoring relationship, our program is structured in a way that emphasizes the large group relationship and the development of diverse mentoring sources. Mentors and mentees will support their small group relationships with participation in Women's Programs activities and other events to build their social networks. Opportunities for encouragement and guidance for mentors and mentees will be expanded as a result.
